Here’s What You Won’t Get With A Preventive Maintenance Plan For Your HVAC System

April 2, 2025

On the fence about signing up for a yearly preventive maintenance HVAC plan?

Careful. If you sign up, there are some important things you could lose if you opt into yearly maintenance

When a service pro comes out yearly to check your heating or cooling system, here’s what you’ll probably have to give up. You might want to think about it.

Weird, Annoying Noises

That’s right. Your system could get less noisy. You won’t hear as much squealing, knocking, clanging, or rattling. Think about that. Have you gotten used to a high-pitched screech every time your system kicks on? Do you really want to give that up?

When a technician comes to your home to service your system, they’ll clean out your combustion chamber, check your ignition system, make sure your motor is running properly — whatever needs to be done. Resolving these issues will help make your system quieter.

But we know you might not want that. No pressure here.

System Inefficiency

A service tech who knows what to do won’t let your HVAC system run inefficiently anymore. Sorry if you liked it that way. A professional technician won’t be able to do anything except help it run better. You’ve been warned.

Like a car, having your HVAC equipment serviced regularly will prolong its life, stretching your investment.

Your technician will get your system running as close to factory specifications as possible so you can start the season with a clean slate. To make sure your system runs smoothly, they’ll check to see if your motor is overamping, test your refrigeration pressures, and give the whole system a once-over to catch any other problems. All this to keep your system from overworking so you can avoid premature wear.

But you can absolutely skip the yearly maintenance and let your system slide slowly into less-than-optimum function. It’s not cute but the choice is absolutely yours!

Sudden Breakdowns

Yearly preventive maintenance agreements for your HVAC are designed to keep your system from suddenly — and seemingly randomly — breaking down in the middle of the summer or the winter.

Which you may think is great. (We do, to be honest.)

But you might think it’s…boring.

If you have maintenance done on your HVAC system in the fall or spring every year, it’s less likely that you’ll have any good my-house-is-freezing/frying stories to tell your friends. What would you talk about at the company picnic?

We get that. A yearly check just might not be your jam.

Complicated, Last-Minute Scheduling

Having a yearly maintenance agreement like our Comfort Care membership is, we admit, kinda basic.

We call you, after all. It’s not a spur-of-the-moment, gotta-remember-to-do-everything, high-energy vibe.

Our Comfort Care program is predictable. We contact you every year to schedule your technician’s visit. As a member, it’s quick to set up (because we’ve already setting aside time for you). Painless. Practically forgettable. No, it’s literally forgettable — we do the remembering for you.

But maybe that’s not your thing? Or maybe it is. If you’d like to become a Comfort Care member and have us be the ones who fuss about it all, we can absolutely do that. (Call or text us.)
